Description

Plains-Sprinter
Neogorgon
Meaning: New Monster
Description: Large, crested tyrannosaur
Species: N. saevidicus, N. challengeri
Family: Tyrannosauroidea, Albertasaurinae
Length: 30-33 feet
Lifestyle: Hunter
Range: North and South America, Eurasia

Distinguishing Features: One of the largest albertosaurine tyrannosaurs, Plains-Sprinters are agile pack-hunters that hunt and live in groups of four to eight individuals. Females are a few feet longer than males. These animals have crests that are red, yellow, or blue depending on the species and have feathery pelts that are gray and brown with clay red skin and spines running down their backs. An alpha female who earns her place through nonviolent displays leads Plains-Sprinter packs. Most packs consist of inter-related animals and their life long mates. Eggs are laid in spring before the arrival of the seasonal monsoons in clutches of four to nine in spiral formation in a nest that is little more than a depression in the ground. The chicks, feather clad in the colors of their parents, leave the pack at five years of age

Habits and Habitat: Plains-Sprinters prefer open land or sparse forest from where they can run down their prey with a burst of speed. Their diet typically consists of ceratopsian and hadrosaurs, along with oviraptors, therizinosaurs, and ornithomimids when they can catch them. Packs hunt by cooperative strategy, with one animal scaring up the prey and running it towards the waiting jaws of the pack. Plains-Sprinters are highly protective of a carcass, backing down only from the largest predators. In disputes with each other, fights always come to intimidation. They bob, roar, strut, clack their tail spines, and sway to deter potential rivals. This is a very effective at keeping their populations intact.
